Visual Arts
In Visual Arts we have a diverse range of subjects on offer, especially at Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5. These include GCSE Graphics, Textiles, Art, Photography and at Key Stage 5, Fashion and Clothing, Fine Art, A Level Photography and A Level Graphics.
In Years 7 and 8 students have double lessons in Technology and Art. In Year 9 students have a Specialism Day in which they experience a wide range of one day workshops and projects across all four of our subject areas.
Students have the opportunity to experience an exciting range of projects in both Art and Technology. Sketchbooks are key to all Key Stage 3, with design and drawing skills being developed and nurtured to prepare students for the full range of GCSE courses.
Key Stage 3 Technology projects introduce students to the disciplines of textiles, graphics and 3D design with students designing and making their own outcomes such as sock monsters and 3D models.
Year 7 Art projects introduce students to the fundamental principles of Art and Design explored through Line, Tone, Texture, Shape and Colour. Students research and respond to a wide range of artists work producing outcomes in paint, collage and mixed media.
GCSE Options include Graphics, Textiles, Photography and Art. Please see below for exemplar materials showing work across ability ranges and all four disciplines.
A Levels include Graphics, Textiles, Photography and Art.
Students go on to Art Foundation Courses after Sixth Form or choose to move straight onto Degree. Some have secured some fabulous apprenticeships in the creative industries. We have numerous links with Universities and Art Colleges, including UAL, UCA and Ravensbourne. We frequently work with practising artists an designers and visiting museums and galleries is a key element of all our courses.
Please see the Visual Arts Opportunities page, under Teaching and Learning to see more examples of students' work, competitions and details of our enrichment programme.
